When it comes to fighting games, adding new characters is a big deal. Not only do they have to seem plausible in the game’s world, they have to add something new to the strategy of the fights. But they also have to prove why they deserve adding in the first place. There needs to be a proper mix of old and new; Soul Calibur has usually succeeded in this department.
Back in Soul Calibur II there was Link, Heihachi or Spawn, depending on your console preferences. With Soul Calibur IV they added Darth Vader, Yoda and The Apprentice (from Star Wars: The Force Unleashed), though they eventually weren’t exclusive to their consoles.
With Soul Calibur VI‘s additional fighters (besides Geralt of Rivia, the protagonist of The Witcher, who was playable upon purchase of the game) like 2B and those from previous games, there are plenty of characters to choose from. But there are more coming. The newest addition is Haohmaru from Samurai Shodown, and this comes alongside a new update.
There will be a new stage, Character Creation Set D which contains 48 new costume items, among a slew of improvements and tweaks to other areas; the update will include the usual things like optimised Ranked Match searches. Prefer to watch games? Or enjoy competitive gaming? Then you can watch Soul Calibur VI this year at Evolution Championship Series at the Mandalay Bay from July 31st- August 2nd, 2020.
Haohmaru is available individually for $6, or receive him as part of the Season Pass 2’s second character. If you choose the Pass, you will also receive Hilde and the next two characters who are yet to be announced– at least, for now. The Season Pass 2 will cost $34, and the character will be available as of March 31st, 2020.
Soul Calibur VI is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. You can also keep up to date on gaming news and reviews at Informed Pixel. Want to speak to the team and interact with other gamers? You can do so over on the Informed Pixel Facebook page or on the Informed Pixel Twitter account.
