I often have a weird love-hate relationship with Square Enix. They produce my favourite content, but I often feel like they leave me in the dark during their development process. Those waiting for Final Fantasy VII Remake or Kingdom Hearts 3 probably understand exactly where I’m coming from.
But I think Square Enix also understands where I’m coming from, and the reason I think they recognize my struggle is because of this new — and overtly bizarre — NieR: Automata DLC incentive reported by Eurogamer.
This past week, Square Enix announced new content where players can fight Square Enix president and CEO Yosuke Matsuda and Platinum Games president and CEO Kenichi Sato.
If you’re like me and you too are frustrated with their business practices, you can literally beat up decision makers at Square Enix and Platinum Games — assuming you own a copy of NieR: Automata.
While this might seem like a weird real-world crossover for a video game, let me remind you that this is the same company that influenced a ramen ad campaign in Japan after Final Fantasy XV’s release (video available below). Not to mention that the same instant noodles were the subject of a pretty elaborate quest in the game, as well.
I personally think this is pretty interesting, and I would like to see what Square Enix comes up with next.
For future crossovers I have a few suggestions for Square:
- A playable version of the original Final Fantasy VII or Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core inside Final Fantasy VII Remake.
- Zombie Walt Disney as a special boss in Halloween Town in Kingdom Hearts 3.
- A Game Boy Advance DLC for Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age that plays random levels of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance.
