Square Enix is cutting its ties to Hitman developer IO Interactive to focus resources on “key franchises,” the company announced in a financial statement today.
The decision will result in a loss of 4.898 billion yen ($43 million USD) to Square Enix as it looks for new investors to acquire IO Interactive.
This doesn’t mean a whole lot right now to gamers, as IO Interactive is most likely not going away any time soon, but it does show that Square Enix could be working on something significant enough to restructure its business operations.
After the news became public, IO Interactive released a brief statement on Twitter saying that they would update their fans as soon as it was right.
“There’s a lot going on right now and we’ll have more to say at a later point,” the company said. “For now, back to making games.”
