Valve’s game streaming service, Steam Link, is now available for the Raspberry Pi.
The Steam Link application supports the Raspberry Pi 3B or 3B+ running Raspbian Stretch, a pre-built operating system for the hardware. With the application, users can stream any Steam title from their computer to a selection of devices, now including the Raspberry Pi.
The application is available, free of charge, to anyone who owns the proper equipment to run it. Valve does recommend Raspberry Pi owners to run the Steam Link application using a wired Ethernet connection, as opposed to wireless internet to prevent latency issues.
- Connect your Raspberry Pi running Raspbian Stretch to the same network as your home PC.
- Launch Steam on your home PC and log in.
- On your Raspberry Pi, open a terminal window and run the following command to install the Steam Link application:
sudo apt update
sudo apt install steamlink - Once completed, you can now launch Steam Link from the Games menu.
The Steam Link application will accept most controllers, including Sony’s Dualshock 4 controller, Microsoft’s Xbox One or Xbox 360 Controller, the Steam Controller, and various mouse & keyboard inputs.
