Steam recently announced they’d be bringing remote play as a service, but it came sooner than expected for most. As of October 21st, gamers can access Steams brand new feature that allows co-op games with friends over the internet. Sounds like standard multiplayer? Well it’s so much more!
Want to play with your friends but don’t have the game? No worries, because only the host needs to own and install the game. Additional players can connect through Steam Remote Play using the streaming technology.
Invite your friends to play local co-op, local multiplayer and shared/split screen games using this new feature. Following a few steps, anyone can play with their friends. You can find these steps below.
- Step 1 – Join the Steam Beta
- Step 2 – Launch any local multiplayer game
- Step 3 – Invite your friend by selecting the “Remote Play Together” option
- Step 4 – You’re all done! You are now playing with your friends
Your friends controllers or keyboards will act as if they’re plugged directly into your computer. Not only that, but all voice chat and game volume options are available in one easy to access space. To make things more secure and give you inner peace, only the game is displayed to your friends. None of your desktop is ever displayed to your friends. You can even share or limit access to the keyboard and mouse, depending on how much you trust your friends.
The Beta is just that, a Beta, so there will no doubt be some issues. They’ll be various network stability and hardware compatibility improvements throughout the Beta stage. You can find out more information about the beta here.
