Yup, it is more of that kind of news for you. In a year chock full of push backs and delays the people at BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment have one more for us. Hope you’re wearing your patient pants, because the latest in the “Tales of” series, Tales of Arise, release has been delayed.
The announcement was made via Twitter, with a press release giving a bit of insight into the reasoning behind the decision. The main gist of it is that Tales of Arise is an ambitious project, and to deliver the goods so that they’re actually, well, good, BANDAI NAMCO has decided to invest more time into its development.
A blog post from Tales of Arise producer Yusuke Tomizawa included this about the delay:
The goal for Tales of Arise is to provide a familiar but innovative gameplay experience to fans of the series, while pushing the technical envelope to deliver a high level of graphical quality to impress both long-time players and those who have never played a Tales of game. Development on the title has move steadily forward in 2020 as we overcame challenges along the way.
While COVID-19 has affected some aspects of development, we’ve done our best to adapt to the situation and have implemented remote development capabilities for our team.
However, to achieve the quality and provide the gorgeous experience we envision for our players, we will need more time to realize that vision and therefore we decided to delay the launch timing for Tales of Arise.
Want to know how I feel about this whole thing? Too bad, I’m going to tell you anyway. I feel the same as I have for every other delay I’ve seen for an anticipated title. Indifferent. I mean yeah, I like video games, but do you know what I like more? Good video games. If I have to wait longer for a game I’ve been wanting to play so that it doesn’t suck, then so be it.
Yes, it would be nice if developers could say with a little more accuracy the time frame a project requires, but this is art not science. Sure there’s math, and computer science, and more that goes into programming and development, but as a whole video games are an artistic endeavor. Don’t rush art, people!
Rant over. No details have yet been released about the new release schedule, although BANDAI NAMCO has promised to provide them as they become available. In the mean time I suppose you’ll just have to tough it out with all the other good games that are out there waiting for you. Go on, find them. It’ll be like a fun scavenger hunt, but instead of a prize at the end you get to enjoy somebody’s hard work in exchange for money.
