The professional Dota 2 team, Team Secret, has taken home the win after defeating Team Liquid in the grand finals at the Shanghai Major.
Team Secret fought through thick and thin, even with the odds being against them to take the win at the Shanghai Major. Team Secret has even faced with a disadvantage during their game with Evil Geniuses, when the team was caught announcing ‘Good Game’, minutes before they actually won. The team was assessed a ‘Level 3’ draft penalty, which resulted in the team not having reserve time in their draft picks, causing them to have to make their character picks at the beginning of the game, without much co-ordination at all. Fortunately for them, their picks were enough as they won that game against Evil Geniuses and eventually made it past that bracket with a 2-1 win.
Team Secret has taken home $1.1 million in their Shanghai Major win and are already preparing to play in other tournaments such as the Dota 2 International Tournament in August.
The Shanghai Major, filled will controversy after Valve fired one of their gaming personalities James Harding (2GD) has finally been concluded. The decision to remove James Harding from the Shanghai Major was due to the inappropriate discussion he had at the beginning of the Shanghai Major, where we started talking about the pornography selection, of the lack there of, in his hotel room. Shortly after this, Gabe Newell of Valve made a statement on Reddit:
“We’ve had issues with James at previous events. Some Valve people lobbied to bring him back for Shanghai, feeling that he deserved another chance. That was a mistake. James is an ass, and we won’t be working with him again.”
This is when we learned that James wasn’t the only target in this event, as there were many other hiccups throughout the event including lost hardware, connection issues with the commentator’s and even the venue being closed while there were still matches to be played. “As long as we’re firing people, we are also firing the production company that we’ve been working with on the Shanghai Major.” Said Newell, “They will be replaced, and we hope to get this turned around before the main event.”
The next event will be in June, when professional Dota teams will return for the $3 million prize pool at the Manilla Major. Then later, this year, The International 2016 will take place in Seattle, Washington, where last year’s winners, The Evil Geniuses, took home the grand prize of $6.6 million.
