Terminator: Resistance is an upcoming game that many people may not have heard of. At first glance the game seems to have promise, but digging deeper into the game and footage available, it seems a lot of work will be needed to make this game as success like the original Terminator films. If you’re a fan of the Terminator series, then reading reviews or watching trailers about the game is advised.
The story takes place in the year 2028, 31 years after Judgement day. Judgement day is a key plot point of the second Terminator film, appropriately named Terminator 2: Judgement Day. A summary of this plot is that Skynet, the AI responsible for bringing the rise of the machines, sets of nukes that destroy the majority of life on earth. In Terminator Resistance you play as Jacob Rivers. A character that is marked for termination. Your goal is to help the remaining humans survive the terminator onslaught, as well as surviving yourself.
Whilst the story sounds interesting at first, the gameplay is unfortunately quite the opposite. Voice Acting is edited horribly and doesn’t flow into other dialogue smoothly, instead cutting suddenly into another line. The game uses RPG style elements along with a levelling system and looting items from fallen enemies.
Teyon, the company creating the game, seemed to approach the design as a somewhat arcade style shooter. The companies previous game, Rambo: The Video Game, received a back lash for trying something too out of the ordinary too. Rambo: The Video Game was labelled by many as the worst movie to video game adaptations of 2014. This back lash could be a reason that Terminator: Resistance is focusing more on being a First Person Shooter, whilst still keeping some arcade style elements.
Terminator: Resistance releases in Europe on November 15 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. With a price of £45.99, only time will tell if it’ll be worth the price of a full retail release.
