The nominee video for best sports/racing game this year looked a little more bloody than expected.
In a surprise video bomb a cinematic trailer for Mortal Kombat 11 was shown. The video was a vicious battle between staple characters Raiden and Scorpion, that had the classic amount of blood and body part removal. Raiden seemed to end the fight by shocking Scorpion’s head until it finally, er, popped. Scorpion returned in his undead fashion, engulfed himself in his flames and flew right through Raiden, lopped his noggin off and delivered his iconic “get over here!” before spearing through the flying head. Gruesome? Yes. Awesome? Yes.
The fight itself was set to the music of a hip hop song that, while pretty cool, didn’t really seem to fit the tone of the battle. But hey, I’m not gonna let that ruin all the hype I feel building inside of me.
Mortal Kombat 11 is set for global release on April 23, 2019. It will have a community reveal on January 17, 2019.
