BioWare has showcased a little bit more of their upcoming title “Anthem” , releasing February 22nd, 2019 at The Gaming Awards. They gave us a little tease of the relationships between the characters you will meet while playing, and shed a bit more light on just what is going on in their newest project.
The first showcase was a cinematic trailer detailing the struggle that the Anthem has brought unto the world with the narrator stating, “I have seen the power of the Anthem destroy entire civilizations…” and continues to unveil a gorgeous landscape pre and post-devastation. The narrator is revealed to be the villain, The Monitor, who will attempt to harness the power of the Anthem and “end all this needless suffering.” This gives the idea that the antagonist believes wholly that his actions are the correct ones, and that will be part of what makes him scary. A sociopath that has complete faith in their actions is a dangerous enemy indeed.
The trailer also showcases several of Anthem’s key characters:
- Haluk – “Haluk is a legendary Freelancer, all-around badass, and mentor to younger freelancers. He also drives the strider.”
- Faye Navine – “As a cypher with the rare gift of mental communication, Faye has always been intrigued by the Anthem of Creation.”
- Owen Corley – “The newest member, Owen is also a promising cypher whose ambition and enthusiasm have made him vital to your success as a team.“
Other characters have also been introduced, and the video was followed up with the show’s orchestra playing music from the game. It was a choral piece that had an almost Gregorian Chant-like feel to it that did a wonderful job illustrating both the beauty of the world and the grim state that it was in.
As February ekes closer and closer we can only expect to get more juicy details from the developers. That tickles me a bit.
Anthem is set to release on February 22, 2019 on Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC.
