The International, held every year by Valve for their most popular online game, Dota 2, has always been a spectacle to enjoy. It promotes the growth of e-sports with a very high prize pool and as a matter of fact, is consistently the highest prize pool every consecutive year.
Each year, Valve implements new ways in which the funds will be raised for the tournament, and since 2012, the community has contributed large funds. Through the purchase of compendiums, each year Valve is able to raise millions of dollars for the event. The compendiums are in game items for Dota 2 that grant you more and more prizes as you level them up. Levels can be bought with money and 25% of all funds earned by the compendiums and levels are contributed to the International prize pool.
This year, Valve has released the International Battle Pass which they expect will raise millions of dollars and surpass last year’s prize pool for $18 million. As mentioned in the title, the current prize pool (at the time of this writing) is at $7.4 million and the Battle Pass was released only a week ago! It is exciting to see how much money the community will raise this year for the International 2016.
