The first game from the Polish developers Event Horizon, Tower of Time is a single player action RPG in a Diablo style dungeon. First released in 2018, you choose from one of seven characters, all with their own playstyles, strengths and weaknesses. However unlike most RPGs of this style, Tower of Time focuses less on gathering items and more on tactical play. This tactical play helps you to win fights, as all enemies also have their own unique skills, strengths and weaknesses.
The combat has been described as “a tactical puzzle”, with a simple to understand story. The game also features hundreds of hidden books to find, collect and read, if you want to explore more of these beautiful hand drawn dungeons.
Once you beat this game, you will unlock a harder difficulty for your next playthrough. You can then replay the game with a new character, or a different playstyle and gamemodes to try, including a permadeath mode. Permadeath mode is a score based mode where you try and get the highest score on the leaderboards. Another mode is RPGlite, which removes the story and instead makes you focus on tactical combat to see how long you can last. There is an incredible amount of replayability.
You will soon be able to experience this large RPG on console. Whether that be on the portable popular Nintendo Switch or the graphically powerful PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, Tower of Time will become more accessible for everyone. If you love RPGs with an incredible amount of depth, character customization and replayability, this will be a fantastic game to try.
Tower of Time will be released on June 24th, 2020 on PlayStation 4, June 25th, 2020 on Nintendo Switch (E-shop and physically) and the June 26th, 2020 on Xbox One.
