Valve’s new game Artifact will release on November 28th, 2018, just in time for the holiday season.
Those attending PAX West in Seattle this year will get an exclusive hands-on demo of Artifact for the first time. Players will battle each other in a tournament, with a single-elimination gauntlet competing for the right to play an unspecified champion on stage. Those who participate in the gauntlet will earn an assortment of merchandise, which include two free copies of Artifact when it launches this November.
Designed by Richard Garfield, who created other card games such as Magic: The Gathering and Netrunner, Artifact takes a different approach to strategy. In Artifact, players control three lanes, each with a tower in need of defending. Using your mana pool, you summon a mixture of heroes and items to take down your opponents towers. The first one to destroy two towers, or to destroy one of the ancients, wins the game.
Artifact is based off Valve’s popular MOBA Dota 2, which has seen plenty of competitive action since it’s official release in 2013. From there, Valve held the Dota 2 International, a yearly tournament held in Seattle offering up a record-breaking prize pool for professional teams.
