A modding group named NOMAD Group has announced their endeavour to revive the PC multiplayer for the Ubisoft game Watch Dogs: Legion. Watch Dogs: Legion UNITED will allow players to host dedicated servers, and use custom scripts for multiplayer game modes.
The announcement that Ubisoft would no longer be updating WD:L in a blog post on January 21st, 2022. Fans of the game were left with the news of no new content or even quality of life updates from the developers. Instead, players were left with one final season of new content and a repeating cycle of the previous season’s content. This announcement and the sudden gap in content for the game left a major opportunity for the modding community to really shine.
Enter Watch Dogs: Legion UNITED, Stage Left.
Since NOMAD Group had already been in contact and worked alongside Ubisoft (Talked about in this Ubisoft Stories article) to create the WD:L Script Hook mod, they had a solid ground to set out on the mission to expand that flexibility to multiplayer.
Usually, having to rely on black-boxed code, making a mod for a game, especially a multiplayer mod, can be extremely difficult. Working in collaboration with Ubisoft brings even more capabilities into the hands of NOMAD Group than would generally be available to modders. In the Ubisoft Stories article, one of the Ubisoft developers mentioned how it was enjoyable to be presented with an issue the modders were having and then bring it to the specific team that created that function for help or an explanation.
Hopefully, from this symbiotic relationship with Ubisoft, the NOMAD Group will be able to deliver a truly remarkable and customizable refresh to the Watch Dogs: Legion Online Multiplayer experience. The NOMAD Group plans on doing a limited functionality early access to the mod that way; they can develop the mod alongside the community and take the feedback in a more responsive form.
