Over the last few years zombies have turned into the staple video game protagonist. From the horrors of Resident Evil, to the comical adventure of Stubbs the Zombie, zombies as a whole have invaded every console generation. Once in a while a game comes along which fights its way to the top of the zombie pile and gets people talking. Last generation it was Left4Dead and for this current generation its: World War Z.
World War Z is a third person co-op shooter that is based upon the book and film adaptation of the same game. Powered by Saber Interactive’s dynamic Swarm Engine World War Z delivers a thrilling Zombie action experience.
Players are tasked with fighting literal hordes of Zombies across 4 campaigns featuring a cast of individual characters. Over the last year developer Saber has added a wealth of free content to the game. This comes in the form of two extra missions for the Russia and Tokyo campaigns as well as a horde mode and a range of cosmetic items to buy.
To continue this momentum Saber Interactive and Focus Home Interactive have announced that World War Z will be getting a game of the year edition which will be coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. This brand new edition will feature all the year one content as well as a variety of new content.
This new content takes the form of a whole new PvE campaign which will take place in the French city of Marseille, and will be played across three new missions. The game of the tear edition will also feature the Lobo, Military, Biohazard and Last Aid weapon packs – as well as one more unreleased weapon pack. Also the Professional and War Heroes character packs will also be included.
Game of the year owners will also get access to the wealth of year one content which has been added to World War Z since its launch. This includes a wave-based horde mode as well as the more recent cross play ability for Xbox and PC users. What’s more is that on the back of this announcement Saber have also announced that a new class and skill tree will also be added to the game later on this year and will be available for all players via a free update.
World War Z GOTY Edition will be available on May 5th, 2020 and will be priced at $44.99.
