Nintendo has had lots of success over the last couple of months, what with the amazing success of the Nintendo Switch and it’s lineup of games, including The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and 1-2-Switch. Now, we are learning that the NES Classic Edition, a sought-after console for consumers has gone to outsell the Xbox One and the Playstation 4 throughout the month of April.
Industry results from the NPD group reveal that the Xbox One and Playstation 4 were outsold by Nintendo’s NES Classic Edition in North America, with the Nintendo Switch earning #1 for hardware sales. Outselling two of gaming’s most reputable platforms is no easy task, even if it is just for a month. It appears that some lucky consumers were able to get their hands on the sought-after NES Classic Edition throughout the month of April, the console’s last month of production.
Nintendo’s mini-retro console was discontinued in the middle of last month, despite the console’s explosive success are retailers around the world. The console was released back in November, where demand highly outweighed the supply, causing consumer frustration. Now, there are reports that Nintendo is planning to re-release the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, with a selection of preloaded games. If the rumor holds true, we should see an announcement at this year’s E3.
The NES Classic Edition has now been discontinued.
