When playing video games, sound is extremely important; as a huge fan of the horror genre, I know how sound can shape an experience. Even the smallest details can create the wrong impression in the audience, causing such issues as laughter instead of dread. Luckily, Xbox players won’t have to worry– because Xbox have revealed their new wireless headset.
Following in Sony’s footsteps with the Pulse 3D Wireless Headset and the PlayStation 5, Xbox’s new sound emitter is made for the Xbox. However, unlike Sony’s headset, there is a wider range of devices to use with it. It will be compatible with the Xbox Series X/S, the Xbox One(s), Windows 10 PC’s, and Android devices.
According to Microsoft the headset will have audio that is “loud and clear” and has “low latency.” In other words, “exceptional sound quality.” It supports Windows Sonic, Dolby Atmos and DTS Headphone: X, all 3 of which are supported by the Series X/S.
Other features include “beamforming microphone elements” which allow it to ignore background noise. It will also have the basics people expect– auto-mute, a light to indicate power/an active mic, and Bluetooth connectivity. The battery life is about 15 hours in use.
Per the design, Microsoft says it has ultra-soft earcups, an adjustable headband, and is made to show off the “circular geometry that informed the design of the Xbox Series X and S.” The colour scheme, is, of course, black and green, and it will not require a dongle for use.
The headset will hit stores from February 16th, 2021 and will cost $100. While it’s not the cheapest headset out there, it is more than likely a step up from Microsoft’s previous wired controllers. They also had to counter the Pulse headset, which is probably the larger reason Xbox divulged its new wireless headset.
