Microsoft’s recently announced cross-buy program called Play Anywhere will not require an Xbox Live Gold Account when it launches later this year.
Gamespot conducted an interview with Microsoft, when the Microsoft representative stated, “Xbox Live Gold isn’t required for playing games that are Xbox Play Anywhere other than enjoying online multiplayer with those games on Xbox One,”. It was also said that Xbox Live Gold will not be required for most of the improvements coming to Xbox Live, with the exception of anything that requires online multiplayer features.
The Play Anywhere program, will accomplish two things. First, it will grant players the ability to own specific Xbox One titles on Windows 10 PC’s with only one purchase. Secondly, game saves will be backed up and players will be able to continue their progress, regardless of the platform they wish to play next on.
Gears of War 4 will be among the first titles to take advantage of the Play Anywhere Program when it launches on October 11th, 2016.
