In a interview with Gamespot, Capcom confirmed that “Street Fighter V, in any iteration, would never ship on Xbox One.”
This is nothing too surprising. The overwhelming majority of the competitive street fighter community uses Playstation 3s in events for Ultra Street Fighter 4 as they produce the most optimal experience for the game itself, and there has been a common difficulty at events with stick compatibility (Xbox 360 sticks will ONLY work with the 360 and sometimes PC and PS3 sticks will ONLY work with PS3/PC). With the game being exclusively released for the PS4 and Capcom representatives stating that “there won’t be a version for the Xbox one”, It seems that this has to do with a more intimate partnership between Capcom and Sony than anything malicious towards Microsoft.
Phil Spencer, VP of Xbox stated: “I’d love it if Xbox fans could play all the games, but business just makes some deals happen. It’s all part of competition.”, I’d say the money is talking between the two companies, which isn’t a bad thing by any means, we just really want another Mega Man game [Editor’s Note: Mega Man Legacy Collection please].
This decision will more than likely not affect the Street Fighter community at all as console preference is never much of an inherent issue, especially for devout players of the series. However, with the game on the PS4 and the plethora of streaming and sharing features available on the console, we can expect to see more ways to watch and participate in the more large scale events that are hosted across the world at this moment. Especially since there are tournaments for Ultra Street Fighter 4 nearly every week.
