The moment we have all been waiting for has finally arrived. Halo Infinite made its’ highly anticipated appearance during the Xbox + Bethesda Showcase at E3 2021! 343 Industries showed off both the campaign and the Free-To-Play multiplayer in great detail, but we’re going to focus on the cinematic campaign trailer here!
Head of 343 Industries Bonnie Ross and Halo Infinite Director Joseph Staten took the stage midway through the Xbox + Bethesda Showcase. Revealing a small fraction of the in-game Zeta Halo ring is described as the most extensive, open environment the team has built. This lead directly into Halo Infinite‘s juicy Cinematic trailer.
A Dynamic & Personal Story
The campaign footage shows no gameplay but rather a sneak-peek into Halo Infinite’s emotional story. Interestingly, the cutscenes seem to be filmed in a single take, without any cuts—a unique innovation to Halo‘s iconic cutscenes.
Master Chief stands a the opening of a pelican and jumps into the zero-gravity space. The Pilot panics over the radio as Chief calmly and confidently tries to relax him. Bashing through debris and dead Banished units, Chief gently moves deceased UNSC soldiers as he searches for a weapon and grapples his way into a nearby hanger.
Briefly fading to black, the trailer picks up sometime later with a surprise. A familiar blue AI is revealed to be with The Master Chief, an imitation of Cortana designed to lock down the rouge Cortana. It seems the rampant Cortana has been deleted in a surprise reveal, but not from this new imitation; a mystery is afoot!
Cortana 2.0, voiced by Jen Taylor, is similar enough to invoke nostalgia; but is different in crucial ways. The dynamic Chief & Cortana has been reversed, where Cortana 2.0 is now “The Weapon” and Master Chief is now the intellect in ways. It’ll be intriguing to see how this is explored throughout Halo Infinite‘s campaign.
