Live. Die. Repeat. It’s a basic formula that nearly every video game implements in one form or another. However, Bethesda & Arkane Studios‘ is taking that formula to a whole new level with their upcoming first-person shooter Deathloop.
Extensive gameplay was shown off at PlayStation‘s State of Play July 2021 event. The game director at Arkane Leon, Dinga, dove deep with gameplay to show off the Deathloop‘s exciting premise and brutal gameplay!
Colt is an assassin who finds himself on the island of Blackreef, stuck in an infinite time loop that resets upon death or failure to kill his targets in time. If that wasn’t crazy enough, another assassin named Julianna is stuck in the time-loop with Colt, trying to kill him to preserve the loop!
Blackreef is an island of high potential if used correctly. Every loop reset will slowly reveal more information that players can use to decide where to find their next target. Playing slowly and attentively may show alternate routes & options previously unseen.
Gunplay is that of a typical Arkane Studios title, and that is an excellent thing! Players can equip unique weapons such as handguns, shotguns, melee weapons and more to get their job done. With a greater focus on aggressive gameplay, Deathloop looks to be their most action-heavy game yet!
In addition, abilities such as teleport will allow quick movement, Reprise to allow more than one death, and Residurn to save unlocks; players will naturally become more powerful. These unique powers will be a staple in the game’s design.
