Another thing we like to do is Q&As with folks all across the gaming industry, from CEOs to Voice Actors. We’ve also done Q&As with VTubers before too. In this Q&A, we’ll be talking to three Virtual YouTubers from 4V Live.
Introductions
For those of you who aren’t familiar with Virtual YouTubers, they’re essentially YouTubers or Streamers that take on the form of a digital character. They’ve become very popular over the past two years, so much so that they’ve gained an audience worldwide.
In this Q&A, we’ll be talking to three members of 4V Live team, an US based VTuber group. 4V Live does a better job explaining exactly what they do, so please enjoy their summarized explanation below. Alternatively you can read their full story here.
“4V Live is a US-based virtual entertainment company specializing in providing talents with a platform so that they can entertain, educate, or inspire with their artistic expression, primarily through livestreaming as VTubers. “4V” stands for “For Virtual content creators.” 4V Live’s mission is to democratize the business of the entertainment industry for content creators, and we believe that the content creators should have the right to radical freedom of speech and access to ethical business support.”
Now that introductions are out of the way, we can move onto the real reason we’re here. Today we’ll be going through some answers to questions given to 4V Live’s first wave, which as a group are called ‘4V Origins‘.
More often than not, Vtuber groups consist of 3 members, and 4V Origins is no different. The three members of this group are Orion Juno, Angelina Kumalo and Vivian Voss, all of which have agreed to answer our questions.

We asked the members of 4V Origins the same questions, to see what really makes them stand out from one another. We’ll be releasing this Q&A as individual Q&As in the future too, should one member catch your interest the most.

Question: As a VTuber, how are you contributing to the games industry?
“I’d say not much now! Hahaha, I do have to say I have a soft spot for hidden gems and indie games. If at all possible, I’d love to help support smaller game developers to reach an audience!”

“I’d like to say I’m one of those pro gamers (lol). I’m a very competitive person and I love competition. So hopefully me playing some games will increase player base and give me more friends to play with.”

Question: What was the most kawaii moment in a game you experienced?
“Every time I’m on screen heheheheh “

“When I was playing APEX on my stream, my viewers sacrificed themselves to make sure that I survived. That was my most kawaii moment because I’m not the best(not a pro gamer haha) and they still wanted to play with me anyways.”

Question: What gaming moment made you rage the most?
“Alright so, there are these alien crabs in this game called Subnautica and they’re awful! They’re SO AWFUL. They have these spider-like appendages, and they click-clack around and hiss at you and attack you.
I was on one of the funny little alien islands in Subnautica, and I was looking through an abandoned living quarter…that was INFESTED WITH THESE CRABS. So being the reasonable human being I am, I started screaming at the top of my lungs every time one of those crab things attacked me.”

“In my Minecraft Collab stream with the 4V Origins, I found a hole and decided that it would be a good idea to go down. I didn’t know it was filled with mobs so whenever I went down the hole I would die instantly and lose all my items, (and they were good items too!!!) so of course I had to go down to retrieve them and it created a cycle of death.”

Question: What other vtubers would you like to collaborate with?
“I’ve recently been loving all of the girls from Nijisanji EN Lazulight group! It would be an honor to collaborate with them one day. I’m also a long time fan of indie vtubers Bao and Artemis, they seem so genuine and fun!”

“That’s honestly a hard question for me, I’d love to collaborate with big vtubers! Yeah, but doesn’t everyone? I’m kind of awkward when it comes to interacting with other people, so it’s really important to me that I know the VTubers as a friend first before doing collaborations or I’d probably be so nervous I’d clamour up!”

“There are sooo many I would love to collab with!! Vienna, Calli and Snuffy! These are the first ones that come to mind!”

Question: What’s one unique thing about yourself that not many people know?
“I love parrots… My favorite species is the Caique, and I have a plan for my dream: a flock of birds I’d like to raise in the future!”

“Pen-spinning! I am really good at spinning pens.”

“I can scratch my face with my foot (only the right one though) and I can’t touch my toes.”

Question: Do you think competitive gaming should be taken seriously? Should they be allowed in the Olympics?
“As much as I enjoy gaming and would love to see esports played in the Olympics, I understand why many people believe they don’t belong there. No matter how mechanically perfect you get at a video game, it doesn’t quite compare to the feats of humankind that many Olympic athletes accomplish.”

“I think it should be taken seriously because it’s really hard, it’s insanely hard. I feel like technology is being so infused with reality, so at one point video games would become more physically challenging. So at one point, I don’t know, maybe in the future?”

“No, I think that would be too much sweat at one place at one time. Everyone would just get toxic.”

Question: Do you feel horror gaming narratives have overtaken those of movies?
“As a film and game design student myself, I believe both mediums have the potential to tell incredible stories in very unique ways. My personal favourite way to experience a story is through a game, so I might be a bit biased toward horror in gaming.”

“In the sense of traditional movies, yes, horror game narratives are better. But, if you’re talking about media in general that doesn’t involve gaming, I think there are a lot of engaging media, that are not movies or ARGs, that are way more interesting than some horror video games. “

“YES. I feel like with games, they can actually flesh out more story and dig into tension more than films do. Because horror games can go 5-10+ hours whereas movies are 2 hours at the most. And they make stupid decisions in movies. (If they split up one more time…)”

Question: What themes do you believe games need to explore next?
“I’m so excited to watch the growth of virtual reality technology. I feel there’s a very high chance that I’ll get to experience a high-quality, massively immersive VR game that’s accessible to the general public within my lifetime.”

“As someone part of the LGBTQ+ community, I feel disappointed that I don’t see any action going on. I would like to see more games involving the LGBTQ+ community. I would like the game to still have its plot but have representative characters.”

“More life-simulation games. I love games like the Sims but I need more. GIVE ME MORE.”

Question: Should game prices continue to be raised in order to better support dev teams?
“Whether game prices are raised or not, there needs to be better regulation on workplace environments and hours within the gaming industry. Developers deserve stable careers and respect in the workplace.”

“I may be broke, but I think it should! Just make sure the money goes to the dev teams! I wanna make sure a starving artist isn’t a trope anymore!”

“I agree with both the girls. Give these artists money!”

“Thank you all so much for supporting me, I will keep trying my best every day to make you proud!”
