It’s December, so that means it is time yet again for the Video Game Awards. With the likes of Elden Ring, God of War: Ragnarok, or Horizon: Forbidden West, this year has been bountiful. Game Details:
Thoughts:
The pre-show was 30 minutes of rapid-paced announcements and awards. We got several games shown off coming out within the next four months. It all capped off with Street Fighter 6 showing off four new characters and minigames that you can participate in. We start the show with Al Pacino giving the award of the best performance to Christopher Judge for his role as Kratos in God of War: Ragnarok.
After the best performance award, three new amazing games were announced. Hades 2 was shown off with the spectacular art direction we expected. After that, the project from Ghost Story Games, Judas, was shown. We saw more steampunk contraptions, and the trailer ended with the tagline “Fix what you broke.” The first segment ended on a top-down rogue-like game Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon coming March 17th. This game follows Bayonetta before she becomes a witch, trying to save her mother.
After a performance by Hosier, we went to best indie debut, which was won by Stray. After the winner of the best indie debut (Stray), we got the next chapter in Destiny 2 called Lightfall, that’s coming out in February. Then we got a tribute to Kevin Conroy, the voice of Batman, and an announcement that he lent his voice to the new Suicide Squad game before his death. Star Wars Jedi Survivor showed off gameplay and a surprise release date of March 17th.
In the end, God of War had a good night full of wins but fell short of Game of the Year to Elden Ring. Congratulations to all the winners and nominees. Here’s looking forward to 2023 for the 10th Game Awards and the lineup it has to offer.
