Earlier this week, Nintendo had a surprise Direct, announcing a ton of games coming out this year! Many came as a surprise, including a Baten Kaitos 1&2 HD Remaster. Nintendo Switch owners will now have the chance to revisit or see for the first time, the two epic JRPGs from the Gamecube era.
Brought to us by Bandai Namco Entertainment, Baten Kaitos and Baten Kaitos: Origins were originally launched on the Gamecube back in 2003 and 2006, respectively.
Baten Kaitos, or the full name Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean, is a unique card-collecting turn-based JRPG. You take control of a “Guardian Spirit” – an invisible avatar – that guides Kalas on his journey to defeat the Alfard Empire. Baten Kaitos: Origins is a prequel entry, set 20 years before Baten Kaitos. You will still be taking the role of an invisible avatar, but this time journeying with a new protagonist, Sagi.
Both games are centred around a magical card system called “Magnus”. What these cards do is capture the essence of items that are found in the game. Magnus can be used for just about anything, from weapons to food and medicine. You can also combine certain Magnus in a battle to create new Magnus with newly boosted effects. Magnus may also change in real-time as well. For example, food can turn rotten, which will hurt a character if it is consumed.
Unfortunately, there is no concrete release date, it is listed to release during the Summer of 2023 on the Nintendo Eshop. We will update once more information is available.
