Microsoft has announced that the Xbox One will soon support ‘cross-network’ play with Windows 10 and other related console and PC networks.
The post comes from Chris Charla, Director of ID@Xbox, who stated that cross-network play will be coming to the Xbox One in a big way. “First, in addition to natively supporting cross-platform play between Xbox One and Windows 10 games that use Xbox Live, we’re enabling developers to support cross-network play as well. This means players on Xbox One and Windows 10 using Xbox Live will be able to play with players on different online multiplayer networks”.
Rocket League will be the first title to support cross-network play between Windows 10 and Xbox One gamers alike, a feature which currently exists on the Playstation 4 version of the game. It is currently unknown if Rocket League will support cross-network play between multiple consoles at launch.
While there has been no official word on if Xbox Live and Playstation Network will now communicate with each other using this feature but Microsoft did mention that there is an “open invitation for other networks to participate as well.”.
