Final Fantasy XIV has hit a major achievement on its fifth anniversary: 14 million registered users. Four million of the users, celebrated as Warriors of Light, have joined in the past year alone, according to a press release provided by Square Enix.
The news comes as Square Enix celebrates the game’s fifth year since the “Calamity”—an event that ended the company’s original attempt at Final Fantasy XIV before it took on a complete rebranding.
“Although the original FINAL FANTASY XIV failed to meet expectations, through the support of people in the media, the companies we have worked with, and of course our dedicated players, we were able to launch A Realm Reborn in 2013,” director Naoki Yoshida said in the release. “FFXIV was indeed reborn, and over the course of these past five years, it has grown to become the title that we all know and love today.”
What’s exciting for the game’s fan base is that it keeps growing to allow more people to find something exciting in the game. Square Enix is set to launch another chapter in the series through Patch 4.4: Prelude in Violet, and the company will be hosting Final Fantasy XIV Online Fan Festivals across the world starting November 16, where it is expected to announce the next expansion to the MMORPG.
Final Fantasy XIV is available on PlayStation 4 and PC right now, and users can celebrate its anniversary in The Rising Event until September 18.
