The First Tree, a game developed and published by David Wehle, the creator of Home is Where One Starts, has been announced to release on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One late 2018, with help from DO Games to import the game over. The game released on Steam and Mac last year, and has received a good reception on both of these platforms. The game has been nominated for Best Game and Best music at the Emotional Game Awards for having such an outstanding and intimate story made by a one-man team. The game features a soundtrack crafted by such acclaimed artists as Message to Bears, Lowercase Noises, and Josh Kramer.
The game follows the stories of two main characters. One is a fox looking for her missing cubs, and the other is a son, reconnecting with his father in Alaska. The player follows the fox on its journey that touches on themes such as the source of life, and the understanding of death. Players will, throughout the game, uncover artifacts and stories from the son’s life, as he becomes intertwined in the fox’s journey towards the destination named ‘The First Tree’. The game itself is only about an hour and a half, and is heavily focused on story. It includes light puzzle solving and platforming to keep the game fun and easy to follow.
