The International 6. Dota’s — and esports’ — largest tournament ever has arrived, bringing the top teams from around the world to Seattle, where they’ll compete for up to $8,000,000 of the almost $20,000,000 prize pool, and the right to call themselves the greatest. The level of skill has never been greater and the stakes have never been higher.
The Wildcard Stage kicked the whole thing off today, featuring Execration from the South East Asian qualifier, Escape Gaming from the European qualifier, EHOME from the Chinese qualifier, and compLexity Gaming from the American qualifier. In the opening round, Escape Gaming played compLexity Gaming and EHOME played Execration.
compLexity took the first game in their best of three, but Escape held on to win the series and advance to the first qualification match. EHOME and Execration also went to the full three games, with Execration winning the first but EHOME taking the next two. In the elimination match, Execration dominated compLexity in two straight games, leading to early concessions in both.
The first qualification series ended after two games, where EHOME handled Escape with great ease on their way to the first Wildcard spot in the group stages. Escape was sent back to the second qualification series against Execration, which they won in two short games.
Tomorrow, EHOME will join Group B with Team Liquid, Fnatic, MVP Phoenix, Newbee, Team Secret, Digital Chaos, and Vici_Gaming Reborn. Escape Gaming will play in Group A with LGD-GAMING, Natus Vincere, Evil Geniuses, Alliance, the wings gaming, TNC Pro Team, and OG Dota2.
