Nintendo has named a new president to lead their company later this year.
Enter Shuntaro Furukawa, replacing Tatsumi Kimishima in June, shortly after Nintendo’s E3 showcase. Furukawa originally joined the company in 1994, where he started on the marketing side of the company. He worked on numerous projects for Nintendo and eventually found himself as part of the board for both Nintendo and The Pokemon Company.
Furukawa is 46 years old, who is 22 years younger than Kimishima, a major generational change. One major benefit of hiring Furukawa is that he speaks fluent English, indicating that he may make an appearance on future Nintendo Direct’s by speaking to the English audiences.
The gaming industry was rocked after hearing of the former Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, who lost his life on July 11th, 2015. Since this time, there were worries about the state of the company, until Nintendo announced that Tatsumi Kimishima would be taking over. Kimishima introduced the Nintendo Switch to the world, and assisted with the company exceeding their own goals for selling hardware.
