According to internal sales figures over at Nintendo, the Nintendo 3DS has just sold over 15 million consoles in the United States alone since it’s launch back in March 2011.
“While crossing 15 million units is certainly a significant milestone, we are equally excited about the new momentum we’ve created in 2015 thanks to new hardware and an unrivaled library of software,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing. “With more great games on the way and a hardware system for every type of gamer, 2015 is shaping up to be one of the stronger years yet for Nintendo 3DS in the United States.”
Since it’s launch we have seen the release of the Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo 3DSXL and the New Nintendo 3DSXL. We have seen a lot of great hits on the system including titles like Mario Kart 7, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, Pokemon X, Pokemon Y and Super Mario 3D Land; each selling well over two million copies in the U.S. and all achieving 85 or higher scores on Metacritic.
