In an interview with presidents of The Nintendo Company and Namco, Tsunskazy Ishihar and Katsuhiro Harada, it was revealed that the Pokken Tournament, the Tekken-Pokemon hybrid game being developed by Bandai Namco, is being developed with an adult demographic in mind. Here’s what they said:
“Considering that many of the people in the generation who experienced Red and Green are now nearing their thirties, and those who were in elementary school then are now in university, we aimed to make a game for those who grew up playing Pokémon—rather than just target children, The bottom line is, we want to show adults that this is the new Pokémon, and get them to play.”
They also added that an overseas version has the possibility to exist, but they had nothing to announce at the time. There was also no word on the Pokemon fighting game getting a home console release, whether being on the Wii U or Nintendo’s codenamed NX platform. Either way, Pokken-Tournament will be released in Japanese arcades on July 16.
