Sony has announced the Playstation 4 Pro, a brand-new console capable of delivering 4K gaming content.
The new console will include an upgraded GPU and boosted clock rate in order to support most 4K displays sporting 3840 x 2160 resolution. The console will also include a 1 TB hard drive; nearly double that of the current Playstation 4 console.
Games like Marvel’s Spiderman, Ubisoft’s For Honor and Watch Dogs 2 were shown in 4K resolution during the Playstation event and look stunning at 4K resolution. Other games such as Crystal Dynamic’s Rise of The Tomb Raider, Square Enix’s Deus Ex Mankind Divided and Tripwire Interactives Killing Floor 2 will support 4K gaming when the Playstation 4 PRO releases this fall. Past games like Uncharted 4 will also be compatible with the brand new 4K resolution.
Activision later took the stage to announced that Call of Duty: Black Ops III, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare & Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered will all take advantage of the Playstation 4 Pro when it releases this Fall. Of course, all of the Call of Duty titles will be playable on Playstation 4 and Playstation 4 PRO consoles alike, just as every other game released for the Playstation 4 ecosystem in the future. Sony mentioned that the Playstation 4 PRO will not separate the gaming community – meaning a unified experience for anyone who owns a product in the Playstation 4 family.
Those without a 4K display will still be able to take advantage of the Playstation 4 PRO. Using the upgraded GPU and improved clock rate of the console, frame-rates will be vastly improved and games will appear in greater quality than that of the Playstation 4. Developers can choose to take advantage of the 4K quality should they wish, however, it is not required to develop games for the Playstation 4 PRO.
The Playstation 4 Pro will be available starting on November 10th, 2016 at $399.99 USD.
