Those anticipating the 3DS remake of PS2 classic Dragon Quest VIII were dismayed to learn that this version would not be releasing in 2016 as promised, being delayed instead until a vague date of “2017”. Luckily though, those awaiting the game won’t have to wait long, because an official release date of January 20th, 2017 has been announced, placing the game’s release extremely early next year.
In addition, the same press release which revealed the release date (courtesy of NeoGAF), also introduced a new “speed up” feature, allowing players to blast through battle animations and get back to adventuring. This makes grinding and battles with random overworld fodder a lot less painful for players new to JRPGs.
Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King was originally released for the PlayStation 2 on November 27th, 2004.
