Yacht Club Games is bringing Shovel Knight to Nintendo’s next home console, the Nintendo Switch.
The main game, now known as Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove (more on later below), will be available shortly after the Nintendo Switch arrives at retailers. It will include all of the upcoming planned expansions including the newly announced Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment.
Those wishing to take part in just the expansions will have the opportunity to purchase them as standalone games. Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope contains the base game as it was released in 2014. The two other expansions, Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows & Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment will also become available at later dates, although exact pricing for the standalone versions have yet to be announced.
The developer mentioned that co-op mode would launch for every platform (excluding 3DS/Vita) in the coming weeks. In what was a Nintendo Wii U exclusive, co-op gameplay will come to every platform that the game is currently available on. Also, it will no longer require the purchase of the unique Shovel Knight amiibo.
Current Shovel Knight owners will soon see a change in the game’s title, as it will be changing to Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove. Nothing will change for current owners as Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove contains all future updates and features, completely free of charge. With this information known now, Yacht Club Games warns that the price of the game will go up in price this Spring to reflect the changes. Fans wishing to catch all of the downloadable content for free should purchase the game before then to ensure they get the best price possible for Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove.
Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove is available for the Xbox One, Playstation 4, PC, Nintendo Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, and Playstation Vita.
