Update: Nintendo announced that production of the Nintendo Wii U has ended worldwide. Nintendo told Gamespot that the “Nintendo Wii U production has ended globally.”
Original: Nintendo of Japan has confirmed that the Nintendo Wii U is now no longer in production.
The news comes from Nintendo of Japan’s official website, where it lists two Wii U SKU’s that are currently available. When translated into English, the banner on the website reads “Wii U has finished all production in Japan.” correctly pointing to the end of production, at least in Japan.
At the time of this publication, there isn’t any word about the Wii U’s production in North America. This said, many retailers today are showing “Out of Stock” or “Low Quantities” with major resellers like EBGames only showcasing second-hand consoles. We have reached out to Nintendo of Canada for more information regarding this.
The Nintendo Wii U released in November 2012.
