Nintendo’s online service for the Nintendo Switch will likely run for $25 USD/year, more than half the price of Playstation Plus and Xbox Live.
The news comes from Dr. Serkan Toto on Twitter, who mentions that the President of Nintendo Tatsumi Kimishima said that the Switch’s online services would cost anywhere between 2,000 – 3,000 yen ($17.50 – $26.50 USD). Serkan also notes that Nintendo is researching Virtual Reality options for the Nintendo Switch and that they will produce a VR solution once they can figure out how to make VR usable for hours on end, without major problems.
The online subscription is required to play Nintendo games online, similar to other platforms. Purchasing a subscription will also grant access to a rotating selection of NES and SNES games every month, but details about that will be discussed at a later date.
The Nintendo Switch releases on March 3rd, 2017, alongside The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
