While the Nintendo Switch will contain Virtual Console features, we won’t be seeing the service at launch.
The company announced the news in an official statement: “Virtual Console games will not be available on Nintendo Switch at launch. We will share more information in the future.” Of course, the Virtual Console opens up the console to running past generation titles, such as the Nintendo Entertainment System, Nintendo 64, and more.
Nintendo’s brand new console launches alongside games The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, 1-2-Switch, and Skylanders: Imaginators. With no support for Netflix or other forms of media on, or after, the official launch date, day one adopters may end up finding themselves short of entertainment. At least until other hit games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Splatoon 2 arrive on the platform.
The Nintendo Switch releases on March 3rd, 2017.
