Nintendo has announced that the NES Classic Edition is now no longer in production.
“Throughout April, [Nintendo of America] territories will receive the last shipments of Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition systems for this year,” a Nintendo representative told GameInformer. “We encourage anyone interested in obtaining this system to check with retail outlets regarding availability. We understand that it has been difficult for many consumers to find a system, and for that we apologize. We have paid close attention to consumer feedback, and we greatly appreciate the incredible level of consumer interest and support for this product.”
The console, which is seemingly sold out everywhere, was released back in November. It appears that Nintendo struck gold with the NES Classic Edition as it was one of the hottest items for holiday 2016, next to those Hatchimal toys that parents have been clamouring for.
Fans looking to get their hands on one might be in luck if they visit select retailers in the next couple of weeks, but beyond that, the NES Classic Edition will be impossible to find.
