Nintendo reports that the Nintendo Switch has now sold more than 2.74 Million units in since it’s release on March 3rd, 2017.
Now that the Nintendo Switch has been in consumers hands for a little under two months, fans are starting to appreciate the hardware for what it is. There is no sign of sales slowing down, with most retailers still reporting no stock of the Nintendo Switch consoles. We expect the demand to carry on through Holiday 2017, especially when the Fall’s lineup of video games arrive in stores.
There is still a lot of software lined up for the Nintendo Switch such as Disgaea 5: Complete, Super Mario Odyssey, Minecraft, and Mario Kart 8, scheduled to launch tomorrow, April 28th. Other developers are considering bringing their games to the Nintendo Switch, provided it can keep up with demand. The developer of Rocket League, Psyonix Studios, have already made a comment regarding their game, and whether or not it would be making it’s way to the Nintendo Switch.
“Just like all the other platforms, we are evaluating it. We’re looking to see what the technical requirements are,” said Vice President of Psyonix, Jeremy Dunham “We’re looking to see what kind of true community demand there is. We’re looking to see how it would benefit the community as a whole. So we’re still in that evaluation phase. It’s definitely too early to say that it wouldn’t happen, but it’s also definitely too early to say that it would.”
No doubt The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild helped the Nintendo Switch move through hardware. At the time of this writing, Breath of the Wild holds a Metacritic score of 97, one of the highest rated Nintendo games of all time. Despite being available on the Nintendo Wii U, the Switch version of the game has been reported to sell more than the Nintendo Switch hardware itself; an impressive feat for any video game.
