Nintendo Switch owners appear to have been busy over the weekend, as Nintendo announces that they have sold more than 459,000 units of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on launch day.
Released on April 28th, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is now crowned the fastest selling Mario Kart game to date, with the previous record held by Mario Kart Wii at 433,000 copies when it was released in 2008. This result equates to a high attach rate for the game, with nearly 50% of Nintendo Switch owners picking up a copy of the game on launch day alone.
The game’s success doesn’t stop there. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe currently holds a 93 on Metacritic, one of the higher rated Nintendo Switch titles so far. For reference, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild currently sits at a 97 on Metacritic, representing great numbers for the Nintendo Switch’s software just two months after release.
On March 3rd, the Nintendo Switch released alongside popular titles like 1-2-Switch, Super Bomberman R, and the long-awaited The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Breath of the Wild went on to move hundreds of thousands of units, even surpassing sales of the Nintendo Switch itself. The high attach rates for Nintendo’s software could mean great financial success for the company, especially leading up to the release of Super Mario Odyssey this holiday season.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is available for the Nintendo Switch.
