Launching back in early 2020 to positive reviews, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot covered from the Saiyan Saga through to the Buu Saga. Later on, they released the season pass including the story of Trunks and two stories from Dragon Ball Super. These were well received and had been thought to be the last of post-release content for this game. However, to everyone’s surprise at the Tokyo Game Show 2022, Bandai Namco showed what’s next for this game. Showering fans with information for the upcoming DLC and Next-Gen upgrade. Lastly hinting at more to come much later in 2023 and possibly beyond.

Playstation 5 & Xbox Series X/S Upgrade

The game will be receiving a Next-Gen upgrade, which will include upgraded visuals and 60fps gameplay. The Next-Gen trailer showcases the massive difference between the visuals. For owners of the game on PS4 and Xbox One, the upgrade will be free and they will be able to transfer the saved files they already have to the new versions.

Bardock DLC

The Fourth DLC will be focused on Goku’s father Bardock. The DLC will cover the struggle he must take on to stop the destruction of Planet Vegeta by the infamous villain Frieza. Whilst fans of the anime and the manga know how his journey ends. This will be the video game debut of Bardoks’ story, along with the first time we have been able to travel around the Planet Vegeta. Finally getting to see and explore where Goku’s Saiyan heritage comes from. I am looking forward to exploring the area and getting a deeper understanding of his story as a long-term fan of the series.

Season Pass 2

During the show Bandi Namco announced the Bardock DLC is the first in a second season pass, coming to all formats of the game. At the moment of writing, only the first chapter is announced. After the Next-Gen update and Bardock chapter release, it’s likely for more information on the rest of the pass to be revealed. The possible stories that they could cover are almost endless. Such as the Tournament of Power, Moro, or the most recent arc including Bardock. It’s unclear at this time if Season Pass 2 is included with the ultimate version of the game already available or if it will be a separate purchase.
