A free update will launch for Super Mario Maker next Wednesday, November 4th.
While free, this update will add a couple new features to help keep your experience refreshing. One of the first features is the addition of Checkpoints, as seen in previous Mario titles. Now creators can place a checkpoint anywhere they want in the level making it possible for the user to continue playing without the need to completely restart the level.
A familiar Mushroom mechanic also sees its return in Super Mario Maker. If you combine a Super Mushroom and a Fire Flower, you can make item blocks only spawn mushrooms for small Mario while Super Mario will be able to obtain the Fire flower.
Two new level menus have also been added to the game: Event Courses and Official Courses. While the Official Courses focus around levels produced and developed by Nintendo themselves, the event courses will contain levels from special events such as the PAX Prime 2015 Omeganaut level seen here.
