One major, overseen feature of the Nintendo Switch is the ability to play games from all over the world. This is thanks to Nintendo lifting the traditional region locking as found on other platforms.
There are several reasons you would want to do this, such as downloading the expansive demo of Sega’s Puyo Puyo Tetris or Square Enix’s Dragon Quest Heroes I & II. This method will allow players to purchase games from other regions (Doesn’t have to be Japanese) and play them on North American Nintendo Switch’s and vice versa.
- Create a Japanese My Nintendo account on Nintendo’s official website. Under “Country/Region of Residence,” select Japan and follow the registration process as normal.
- On the Nintendo Switch Console, go to Settings > Users > Add User. Follow the account creation process until you find the “Sign In and Link” button. Once here, sign in with the Japanese account you just created.
Now, you should be able to access the Nintendo e-shop using the newly created profile. The Japanese e-shop already has an expanded selection of games and demos to choose from, so be sure to take advantage of this feature.
The Nintendo Switch is available now.
