The survival genre grows with a new title; Frigid will take players on a frightening journey through a frozen wasteland. Taking its inspiration from John Carpenters horror classic, The Thing and the popular survival title The Long Dark, the game looks like a tense and chilling narrative.
In Frigid, you take on the role of a retired hunter looking to visit his family in the artic region when you are caught up in a storm, leaving you stranded. You are then forced to seek shelter and scavenge whatever you can to survive and survive you must as the elements aren’t your only enemies.
Bump in the night.
Throughout the various locations, players will encounter an infection that causes animals to become highly aggressive, and in true Carpenter fashion, mutates into grotesque monstrosities with multiple limbs and tentacles.
Players will need to craft weapons and items to defend themselves against these terrifying creatures, with footage highlighting players using firearms with limited ammunition to dispatch attacking enemies.
As players explore the frozen landscape, they will begin to understand what has transpired and the source of these abominations. Using the backdrop of a not too distant future where climate change has forever changed the landscape adds another layer of paranoia to the tense gameplay.
Try it yourself.
Frigid is releasing in 2021 and currently has a steam page. The demo available to players allowing you to dive in and see what it has to offer; you can find it here. The beta will allow you to explore a section of the game, engage in combat with mutated animals, and craft items to progress.
