Nintendo CEO & President Satoru Iwata has passed away at the age of 55.
The statement issued by Nintendo reads: “Nintendo Co., Ltd. deeply regrets to announce that President Satoru Iwata passed away on July 11, 2015 due to a bile duct growth.”
For those unaware, Iwata has been fighting a bile duct growth over the last couple years, resulting in the absense from E3 2014 & this year’s E3 2015.
Satoru Iwata started with Nintendo back in 1980, where he began working on various games such as Earthbound on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) & Kirby’s Adventure on the Game Boy Advanced (GBA). Fast forward to the 21st century, Satoru Iwata was promoted to the Director of Nintendo for four years until he was appointed as President and CEO of Nintendo in 2002. Since this time, Iwata has been involved with overlooking the great Nintendo systems such as the Gamecube, Wii, WiiU, DS & 3DS.
On behalf of Informed Pixel, our wishes go out to Iwata’s family & friends.
