Nintendo has released an update of their software sales numbers for the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Wii U.
The update speaks about the sales numbers for numerous titles, including Mario Kart 8, which takes the lead in software sales for the Nintendo Wii U at 8 million copies sold. Other popular titles include New Super Mario Bros. U, bringing in 5.45 million copies, and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, reaching just shy of 5 million copies sold at retail.
Worth noting is that Nintendo’s new IP Splatoon, release for the Nintendo Wii U last summer, has sold 4.57 million units, proving that the game may have had a significant impact on the Wii U’s hardware sales. Of course, Splatoon was one of the titles teased in the recently announced Nintendo Switch reveal trailer, so this may translate into a sequel of the game being developed for Nintendo’s new platform.
On the Nintendo 3DS side, Pokemon X & Pokemon Y top the sales charts at a whopping 15.64 million copies sold since it was launch in October 2013. Game Freak’s other Pokemon titles, Pokemon Omega Ruby & Pokemon Alpha Sapphire has sold tremendously as well, selling 13.18 million copies in a shorter time frame.
