Sony had officially announced the release window of the PlayStation 5— and it’s Holiday 2020. Holiday usually refers to the final quarter of the year when talking about game and console releases, so it’s safe to assume Holiday 2020 will be anytime between October and December of 2020.
Other than the newly-unveiled time frame, Sony decided to release a little bit of information on the PlayStation 5 controller that will be standard with the console. They described its “haptic feedback” as being more intricate and diverse than the rumble feature that it will be replacing. Sony have stated that due to this feature “crashing into a wall in a race car feels much different than making a tackle on the football field.”
Sony is also adding something they call “adaptive” triggers (L2/R2). The “developers can program the resistance of the triggers so you can feel the tactile sensation of drawing a bow and arrow, or accelerating an off-road vehicle through rocky terrain.”
With this combo, Sony is hoping that the PlayStation 5’s controller alone will be an upgrade in immersion. The speaker from the Dualshock 4 is coming back as well, creating a unique controller all its own; and while they say there is no official name yet, if history is any indication, it will be the Dualshock 5.
