Playstation Plus subscriptions will be going up in price starting on September 22nd, 2016.
Anyone who signs up for a Playstation Plus subscription on or after September 22nd will need to pay $59.99 USD or $69.99 CAD for a full-year subscription. This has gone up in price from the original $49.99 USD ($59.99 CAD) that the membership currently resides at. The monthly subscription will stay at $9.99 in the United States, while the cost will go up for Canadians to $11.99 CAD.
Sony has announced that there will be no disruption to the services they currently offer with the Playstation Plus membership. Sony states in a blog post:
“The new pricing reflects the current market conditions while enabling us to continue providing exceptional value to our members. As a member, you will continue to enjoy the benefits and features that enable shared experiences, such as online multiplayer, free games, and exclusive discounts. You will also continue to get exclusive benefits such as online game save storage and discounts across the PlayStation digital services.”
This is the first time we have seen a price increase since the program launched in June 2010. Since then, Playstation 3, Playstation 4 and Playstation Vita gamers have received hundreds of dollars in free games.
The Playstation Plus program launched in June 2010 with the Playstation 3.

Lol price increases for this service

Yeah the same Service that has inspired free games on Xbox.
@Skyler Edgar
This is likely due to local Canadian taxes or Regulations. Perhaps even a shift the in exchange rate.
To be honest I am kind of surprised that an increase of price in anything is newsworthy in Canada. Seems typical to me.
It does come to quite the shock though, considering Canadians have been paying the same $49.99 (as per Amazon) https://www.amazon.ca/Sony-Computer-Entertainment-Month-Subscription/dp/B00FJ4CDGQ
It does make sense. Just the sudden $20 price increase is a hard pill to swallow for some people. It will be interesting to see what happens to the Playstation Network numbers because of this.
any known deals so we can stack up???
no wonder why no one play anything multiplayer on the ps4…lol.i remember an article the out of 40m console less then 20m people use psn…lmao.

No thanks sony, sweaty and smelly panties are way cheaper and better than plus
Your moms, right?
my neighbor stained panties
Good thing the PSN is really reliable and we get a great service and value for money.
Oh wait.
I had it for 2 years and stopped paying – in 2 years I haven’t downloaded more than one game for free, as nothing has caught my eye at all on a personal level. Sure, you may have loads of games, I think they’re all crap and will go to Steam on PC for my indie games thanks. Sure as hell cheaper too.
Online is free for every game on PC, why not here as well?
This has never been worth it, as the issues and lack of games prove.

See ya don’t let the door hit you in the ass!
Yeah come to PC gaming rife with hackers and cheaters!
You’re a joke, lmao. The fact that you support awful business practices is actually disgusting.
The PSN price isn’t bad. But, I’d rather have a free service like what they had on the ps3. Kind of crazy how minimum wage gets raised to 15 dollars an hour and PSN raised their price. Thanks inflation.
wow New york (cost of leaving 6 figures) has decided to increase to $15 an hour in the year 2022, and California will increase to 15 in 2020 and you decide to post that is the minimum wage as if it is fact current and relates to inflation now? Kinda misleading, don’t you think?
@disqus_EkKRZZnEjR:disqus
The minimum wage is completely arbitrary, I don’t think its wise to raise the minimum wage willy nilly. The fact is minimum wage is paid for entry level jobs for people with no skills who literally have no value in the marketplace. Artificially raising the cost of their employment will only help to usher in automation and eventually the removal of those entry level jobs. Things will only get worse for the low skilled worker who used to use a minimum wage job as a stepping stone to better employment.
The dirty secret in the US is that Democrats always want to raise the Federal Minimum wage because it is a pack back for Union support. Many Unions set the wages of their members based on minimum wage. So when the guys running the fryer get a raise so do many Unions. It’s all a scam.
@muratpepper:disqus
When did the minimum wage get raised to $15 per hour? It’s a campaign issue but nothing has been done about it.
6 years without a price raise on this service while they have simultaneously expanded the service is not a bad deal.
Some of this can be blamed on the fans. Sony offered a better price. Microsoft fanboys kept bragging that the price proved that Microsoft was better! So guess what a company will do, prove that it is not by raising the price if people don’t like the price. Thanks blind Microsoft fanboys (not the good ones just the loud blind ones).
WOW, people will say anything. Sony raised the price because they can, they’re the current king of the console generation, and they’re doing what these greedy companies do, capitalizing. LOL @ blaming M$ fans, ridiculous. You can blame them for Sony charging in the first place, sure, but you gotta blame Sony fans for jumping aboard ‘n paying up for why the price is going up.
All last gen, it was PS3ers laughing at Xboxers for bending over to the online paywall, and then hypocritically just joining up day 1 on PS4. I couldn’t be happier that I built a gaming PC a few months ago, and I won’t be renewing my PS4 PS+ sub once it runs out. Paywalls are BS, and PS+ sucks on PS4 for free games, why? because it’s paywalled and they don’t need provide good content like the PS3 days when PS+ was worth a damn.
