Sony’s Playstation VR headset has sold more than 915,000 headsets as of February 19th, 2017, making the Playstation VR the best selling Virtual Reality headset ever to be released.
This number confirms that the headset has sold more units than the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift, with them selling an estimated 675,000 units combined by the end of last year (According to the SuperData Research firm).
One game that seemed to take advantage of the Virtual Reality technology, at least recently, was Resident Evil 7. The VR mode was surprisingly in-depth, making us want more titles that use Virtual Reality functionality, but it appears that the list of upcoming titles for Sony’s VR headset is dwindling, pointing to a lack of third and first party support leading into 2017.
It is hard to say at this point if Virtual Reality is here to stay, but Sony seems to be doing a great job at keeping the industry on top of it. We reviewed the Playstation VR back in November, saying that “While it is cool to play games like Rigs and Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes, it is missing the definitive software that makes VR appealing.” You can read our full review coverage for the headset here.
Playstation VR released on October 13th, 2016.
