Bandai Namco has announced that their Pokemon fighting title, Pokken Tournament, has now sold more than one million copies worldwide.
Pokken Tournament was first released as an arcade concept, with several arcades throughout Japan receiving the game in their businesses. Since it’s launch in arcades, there was an overwhelming demand to have Nintendo and Bandai Namco port the game to the Nintendo Wii U. It wasn’t until March of 2016, that the game hit retail shelves for the Nintendo Wii U in North America.
The game has received its share of popularity since the official release. Big gaming tournaments, such as last month’s EVO featured Pokken Tournament as a competitive title. Furthermore, Nintendo and Bandai Namco are teaming up to deliver the Pokken Tournament Championship Series, a worldwide tournament with more than $100,000 in prizes. This tournament is scheduled to start on August 20th, in San Francisco, California.
Pokken Tournament is currently available as an exclusive on the Nintendo Wii U.
